So, uh, Book during Ariel at the monastery, plus some quotes from John and Psalm 39.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

It’s easier to think about God here. Here is a quiet, reverent peace utterly unlike the messy, loud chaos aboard Serenity. Here one does not have to worry about thieves and ( Read more... )

This is beautiful. I think Book is exactly where he needs to be- faith that isn't stretched atrophies. The verse "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it" is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It really, truly sums up my faith. You give us a respectful, well written insight into the man Book is and the struggle- and the innumerable rewards- of intelligent faith. Thank you so much.

Wow, thank you for such thoughtful feedback. I'm really glad you liked it. I've always thought it would be very difficult for a preacher to share such close quarters with a crew like that of Serenity without having some dilemmas with regards to his faith, and I was trying to convey that sort of innder conflict.

I loved this and could so see Book thinking of Serenity and her crew in this way. Your last line summed it up so beautifully. *Xiexie ni* for a very shiny piece of fic, Ali D :~)

Thank you! Book's kind of a complex guy, and tricky to write because of the whole mysterious past, so I'm glad to hear he seems in character to you.

I really enjoyed this fic. You achieve a great tone, and I love the last line about the "beautiful, flawed souls in the black." That's a great image. Also, I must give props to you for writing Book! Not many people do, so it's even better that one of the few is also one of the good. :)

Thanks for the feedback; I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks especially for your comment about the last line, as I always have trouble ending these little introspective pieces and it's nice to get assurance that I'm doing it okay. You're right, there's not a lot of Book stories out there, which is sort of sad, because Book's a really interesting character.
