The Earth and the Stars (Challenge 5)

Jan 12, 2004 00:58

This is for the fifth challenge, which was one of the dialogue ones. The title is obscure as hell, but at least it's a Firefly reference. Around 240 words, nearly all of which were written months ago, to my surprise.
"What do you want?"

"I want it all. I want everything." The ground trembled, as if to punctuate his declaration.

"Now, honey, if you can’t play your part right, we’re just going to have to stop." Wash cleared his throat, and picked up where he’d left off. "You're not going to get it," he said in stegosaurus-voice.

The tyrannosaurus laughed heartily at this. "And how do you expect to stop me? You’re nothing but a light appetizer to me."

"How do I expect to stop you? Perhaps with a well-planned and brilliantly-executed ambush." The nearby trees and foliage began to move, revealing themselves to be dinosaurs with plastic trees tied to their bodies.

"Curses! There are just too many of you!" The tyrannosaurus grew frightened and backed away, only to discover still more dinosaurs advancing on him from behind. "How did you know?"

"Word of your treachery in This Land traveled far and wide. We had no doubt that you would grow greedy and want This Other Land as well. But we will not so easily give up This Other Land, for it has very nicely curving hills and this adorable little bellybutton..."

The ground shook harder this time, scattering dinosaurs with their little plastic trees. The earth loved to laugh.

"Now that’s it, Zoe. I can’t work like this."

The earth laughed again, and reached out her arms. "Come here, you."

Dinosaurs flew across the room. "Yes, ma’am."

005 ("what do you want?")
