Title: I'm no good at titles... Untitled as of now.
Author: oreos_are_crack
Summary: Inara and Kaylee meet in the engine room
Rating: Pretty PG, I must say
Characters: Inara and Kaylee
Pairing: Inara/Kaylee
Disclaimer: I am not Joss Whedon. Completely fiction, don't worry...
Author's Note: So, this is my first Firefly fanfic ever. I actually originally wrote it for a friend, but since then I've written two others, both increasingly more descriptive than the last... I'll post those later depending on the reaction this gets :)
"Kaylee, there you are," Inara said calmly and pleasantly when she found her friend hunched under Serenity's engine.
With a yelp, Kaylee's head reared up and hit the bottom of the giant engine. Looking up wildly, Kaylee saw Inara standing there and quickly stood up, trying to rub out the pain attacking her head. "Ow," she said with an embarrassed grin.
"Are you alright?" Inara asked, trying to hide her amusement.
"Oh, I'm fine," Kaylee responded, looking away, still trying to make the throb die down, "I just, well, I didn't expect you is all."
Inara smiled warmly. "Well, the reason I'm here is that I found this in the kitchen and though you might be looking for it." She held a wrench out to Kaylee and watched with satisfaction as a delighted grin spread over the girl's face.
"Oh, gosh, I've been looking for you everywhere! Thanks, Inara, I've been needin' this one!" She took the wrench gingerly and there was a small pause as they both searched for the next words to say. Finally, Kaylee bent down to set the wrench down with the others. "So Inara, you got any clients lined out for our next stop?"
"Oh, a few," Inara said lightly, looking away, "But I don't know… It's hard to choose sometimes."
"Wow," Kaylee sighed, "I just wish I had a choice sometimes, y'know?" She giggled, but stopped when she saw Inara's confused expression. "What's wrong?"
"You always seem so interested in my profession… Why is that?"
Kaylee's hands turned ice cold when Inara took a step closer. "Oh... Um… I dunno, it just always seems so… interesting. Don't get me wrong, I love Serenity. It's… I guess I just wish sometimes I was able to… See the 'verse a little more than through a window, I s'pose."
Inara nodded, then looked Kaylee in the eye intently. "But you do seem to be somewhat especially interested in the idea of being a companion. Is there a reason?"
Swallowing nervously, Kaylee looked down and smiled. She could feel her face getting warm and her hands got sweaty like they do sometimes when Inara got this close. "I… I dunno…" She spoke softly and let the words trail off when she met Inara's eye.
Inara reached up and caressed Kaylee's cheek with one hand. Then she leaned forward and kissed her. Taken by surprise, Kaylee breathed in sharply, but quickly submitted to the moment and let their lips move in sync with eachother. After a few moments, Inara's tongue slipped through their locked lips and ran over Kaylee's. She put her hands on Inara's waist and pulled her in closer.
After a few minutes, Inara pulled away and smiled. "I think you are deprived of attention, Kaylee. I've seen it in quite a few of my clients. It's nothing to be ashamed of and it's certainly not your fault. But I can help you. If you ever feel lonely, you know where my shuttle is. Don't be afraid to come any time. My door's always open." Freeing herself from Kaylee's embrace, she glided out of the room, the silk she wore making that swooshy sound Kaylee had grown to adore. Kaylee smiled faintly and then kneeled down to continue her work.
