"Never mind that if Bruce dies, Alfred inherits a vast fortune. Hm."
It does seem a small conflict of interests. But if Alfred were that ruthless he'd have endless opportunities to bring things to a favourable conclusion, and doesn't appear to have done so.
I'm pretty curious as to the details of the Waynes' Wills. Like there might have been protections in place to keep Alfred from hiring someone to take out Bruce, but if Bruce managed to get himself killed there would be no consequences.
In Batman Begins, Bruce was a few days from being declared legally dead. They were going to give his entire fortune to Alfred. Or in the Dark Knight Rises, after Bruce Wayne was said to be dead, Alfred got the remainder of his fortune.
Idk, Alfred probably really loves Bruce and doesn't want to be the one to kill him, while at the same time there's a lot of money involved with Wayne Enterprises. Wasn't he a near-penniless actor before the Wayne family hired him?
