Mia had forgotten what it was like living in the Compound. It was cramped, it was busy, and above all it was noisy; rarely did she get a moment's quiet to herself. Visiting the place wasn't quite the same as living in it. Everyone seemed to know everyone else and be involved in each other's business - it reminded her far too much of Kurain Village, if Kurain had been made out of concrete and desperation.

By the second week there, she was in a thoroughly bad mood, and she couldn't even muster one of her usual smiles at breakfast. In fact, she left the kitchen without eating anything and having drunk just one cup of coffee, retreating to the relative safety of the recreational room where she at least hoped to find an empty chair to sulk in.

She wasn't going to go back to the hut. The more time she spent away from Phoenix the angrier she became with him, and if she went there now she knew she would only tell him off. As for Edgeworth, he wasn't going to be any help, though she took solace in knowing he was probably just as miserable as she at the moment.

The only thing she had to look forward to was her law class, and even that she was going to have to share with Phoenix.

Right then, she wished things would go back to how they had been before she died. Phoenix, a rookie lawyer; she, his mentor. It was so much easier that way without trying to love him at the same time. And she had tried. It just hadn't worked out all that well, as evidenced by her current situation.

She should have taken the hint when Diego 'died'. She just wasn't cut out for relationships, much less with fellow lawyers. However much they weren't lawyer material anymore.
