Author's Notes: Written for the First Kiss Series. I HAVE NEVER, EVER CRIED WHILE WRITING FICTION. I was really surprised when I started crying as I wrote this. There's just something pure about a child's love.

Sunlight filtered through the happy little house. Helena kneaded the dough by hand. Though magic would have been easier, Helga had said that if she kneaded the dough with love, it would taste better. And she wanted it to taste good. Once she was done, she slid the bread into the oven and stepped back. She wiped her hands on her apron and looked at the list Helga had given her. Bread was done.

After Helena had left her father's home, she had decided to come live with Helga for a while, as she figured out her next steps. Living with Helga was fun, there was a significantly smaller number of rules. And, of course, there was her favorite sweetheart...

"Ciaran!" Helena exclaimed as he came into the kitchen. She stretched out her arms to welcome him. He half-ran and barreled into her.

"You're here!" Ciaran cheered, hugging her.

"Yes, I have come to stay for a little while," she said.

"Stay forever!" Ciaran declared.

"Oh, I cannot, darling," Helena said, smoothing his hair back.

"But why not?"

"I have things to do out there," she said. "I have to study and learn."

"Don't you love me anymore?" he asked, his face crumbling.

"Of course, I love you," she answered. "I just cannot stay here. Father and Mother will find me too easily and I must be away from them for a little while."

"I love you, too, Lena!" Ciaran declared. "Stay here! I'll take care of you! I'll make sure no one finds you!"

Helena laughed. "Oh, honey, even if I stayed now, I would have to leave. I would get married and have my own children..."

"Not if you married me!" Ciaran declared. "Then you would never have to leave!"

"Oh, darling!" Helena exclaimed. "Why, that would solve a lot of things, would it not?"

"It would," Ciaran said seriously. "That's why you should do it."

"All right," Helena said as she straightened up. "I will marry you, but you have to ask your mother first."

"She won't mind, she loves you!" Ciaran said, climbing up on the counter. Helena looked at the little boy she had rolled around in flour in what seemed like just yesterday. Helena sighed.

"Well, it is always better to ask first," she told him.

"Okay!" Ciaran declared. "First order of business! A kiss!"

Helena's eyes widened and she laughed. "All right," she said and gave Ciaran a quick, chaste kiss on the lips. "There," she declared before returning to the second loaf she was supposed to be making.

"Second order of business! Babies!"

Helena laughed even louder and Ciaran grinned as he watched her continue to knead the dough. He started telling her stories of what would happen once they were married. How he'd always take care of her, how he'd never let anyone hurt her, how he'd love her forever and ever and ever. It was the happiest day of Ciaran's young life. That afternoon was filled with much laughter and sun continued to shine.

When his mother came home, he'd promptly asked her permission to marry Helena. He'd been ecstatic when his mother gave him her blessing. She had laughingly told him that she'd leave Helena in his hands, then. Helena had tucked him in that night, and had even slid in beside him after he begged her to. They had watched each other until he fell asleep. When he woke up the next day, she was gone. He tore through the house, searching desperately for her, but she had gone. She had left him.

Helena looked like she was asleep, but Ciaran knew better. He knew the beautiful dress hid a hideous wound that had killed her. He refused to let the tears flow. He would have to be strong. For his mother. I told you I'd take care of you, Lena. I told you I'd never let anyone hurt you. But I've failed. I've failed!

"Ciaran!" Ciaran stared at the vision that came running towards him. It couldn't be. Helena was dead! She jumped into his arms and he held her. No, she was real. She was no vision. She was no dream. Ciaran clutched her to him. It was a second chance. One he would not waste. As the other students of Hogwarts filtered past them, he could not let go. He did not want to.

I'll always take care of you. I'll never let anyone hurt you. I'll always love you. Forever and ever and ever.
