i was at the opening of I Be Area, and I know what you mean about having to turn off the context filters. i actually sat there for the whole thing and left not sure if i liked it or not. a week later, still undecided, i gave into loving it for that reason. i don't think i was alone. half the fun at the screening was watching the other audience members sit there with jaws dropped open; over half the room of toocool for school new yorkers looking like they'd just been bitchslapped. what i really loved (once i let myself) was how all the information is there but it's like a foriegn language because the coding is so off. the characters say things with their mouths that are contradicted, or at least tossed sideways, by the way they say it. and there's the chaos of disorder and randomness fit into a very calculated structure. in short, it fucks with you. and yeah, pasta is great.
i'd love to see it again--it was a total alter-universe--maybe he'll post it to his youtube someday. also, it was kind of interesting seeing that little girl and the little boy in the dressing room react to Pasta and the other characters--i imagine at that age there are practically no filters, you just accept everything at face value...day-glo skin color and all :P
