Abraham Lincoln is my absolute favourite. I read a massive biography of his over the past summer, and it blew my mind page after page.

"Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It's about both Lincoln and his rivals in the 1860 democratic election, who then later go on to fill key positions in his cabinet! I remember hearing somewhere that Obama apparently likes the book a lot too, for whatever that's worth.
