Dead PowerMac :(

My cat jumped up on my desk. My old PowerMac G4 was perched precariously there. The weight of the cat moved the center of weight of the cat-mac system to a position unsupported by the desk. This induced a torque, with the edge of the desk as fulcrum. Gravity accelerated both downward, but the cat dynamically changed its shape, propelling itself ( Read more... )

Ohh I hate it when an LCD breaks. I cringe when people do careless actions that might destroy their screen. I mourn when others break theirs. I am sorry for your loss.

Interestingly, I have started to value the physical safety of laptop screens (but oddly, only for macs), over the value of physical safety to myself. I recently tripped on a metal staircase while holding my laptop. It is likely I could have secured my baby with one hand and used the other to guide/roll my torso to avoid injury. Instead, I cradled my laptop with both arms and fell straight forward like a tree trunk. I remember watching the floor come at my face. So what if I bruised my shins, elbows and chin? my precious was safe.

I am happy however that you were able to find a nice PB g4. Those were my favorite laptops of all time (esp. the 12 in variety). The intel mbpros might be faster and might have maglock power, but they have never been quite the same caliber. (actually, I don't know. maybe the unibody macs are now)

Men are weird, aren't we? We'll value some things more than anything in the universe, whether or not it makes sense. I'm glad you didn't break any teeth!

I found out AFTER I bought this bad boy that there is a faster version. The last PBG4 made has a faster video card and a faster buss, while keeping the 1.67GHz clock. I have the slower one, but that's OK. I don't really need to watch HD movies on my lappy. (Just so long as I can watch X-tube!)

I've named this one Fluorine, after having exhausted all Group 18 elements, it's time to regroup.
