So far, most of my ebay purchases have been "Buy It Now" items, or auctions that nobody else is particularly interested in buying. Not the case here. I want this, a big blob of Ruthenium. The Russian is offering this ( Read more... )

If you win depends on one thing, how much will you pay for it? :)

Too true, but heated eBay auctions can come down to who has the better bidding robot. Sure, it's $281 right now, but with 10 seconds to go "The Element King" might have automatic bids placed for $347 or some such.

Of course, I could bid $10,000 right now and that would settle it, but for just a little bit more than that I could buy or build my own electron beam furnace and make my own samples.

I already have some of his samples of those. :)

Ruthenium is much more rare, and it's harder to find really beautiful samples of it.

The disguise used to test the humans to make sure they were safe to invite onboard -- I would recognize it anywhere. Star Trek, Original Series, Episode 4 (unless it's 5 and I'm confused.)

Yes, this I know. It's the dummy aboard the Fesarius that Balok used to scare the whit out of the Enterprise crew.

"Not chess, Mr. Spock, poker."

Sadly, I've committed to memory every word of every episode of TOS. I can't help it. The doctors say that the only treatment is lobotomy, but my insurance doesn't cover that. Damned insurance companies!

The Corbomite Maneuver was the third episode produced, the tenth to be aired, FYI.
