it's better to be working in defused lighting when you're taking slides of art work. the colors are as rich as they are supposed to be and you don't have harsh shadows on 3-d pieces.
oooh youre doing a portfolio. in that case, hang them up and get a light. bah i forget what theyre called. you know the really bright white ones with the silver shield around them... yeah... thats how we shot my portfolio, my photo teacher did them for us. make sure all other artificial lighting is off though or else they'll turn out tinted.

unless you wanted it to be cloudy for some reason. but dont think that the slides wont come out right if theres lots of sun...
