Also, don't they put totalled cars into compactors, thus really making the resting even more of a single piece? Or will they salvage any usable parts first?

oh im definitely fine, the passenger in the truck in front had some whiplash but she seemed to be ok afterwards just shook up.

I say pieces since they littered the highway and i will be salvaging all the usable performance modifications i can and reselling em.
