So last night while reading fanfiction, as I often do, I read this one story. I recognized the signs of teenage drivel rather quickly. Now I know better than to keep going. But the concept was sound, even if the execution was laughable. Most of all, it was fairly harmless as far as bad stories go. Like a kitten that got itself completely

It's nice that the author recognized your helpful criticism... so I don't know. A receptive student can be rewarding. But if her work gets a D, is it worth your effort and time if it only gets her to a D+?

I beta-read for a friend on occasion, which usually means I turn on Track Changes in Word and make margin comments about characterization or phrasing. It sounds like your author needs major grammatical help before she can even approach content edits. I guess it just comes down to your patience. :)
