Our cat (Solomon) is a fairly good hunter, and does bring mice in fairly regularly... (Although thankfully he tends to leave most on the mat outside the front door, half eaten.)
However, I don't think he'd ever put one on our pillow. His MO is RUSHING in when we open the door and disappear under the dining room table, meowing a very loud and particular MEOOW. At which point we a) hope it's not alive and b) do our best to remove him & the mouse, usually by picking him up (mouse still in his mouth) and throwing him back outside.
So far he has only brought in a live mouse once. He then proceeded to PLAY with it, and LOST it, so it ran all over our front room (including up the curtains & along the curtain pole, with Solomon sitting below following it avidly with his eyes) before he eventually managed to kill it, about an hour later.

He's an idiot, but we love him.
