Question: If someone is still heartbroken from their last relationship, if they still haven't quite gotten off that roller-coaster of resentment and regret, can they possibly be ready for a commitment like engagement/marriage? Might the act of committing help to heal such an injury? or is that self-delusion?

I think it depends on the individual and the particular circumstances. Think of some of the women in your past, who married (or at least seriously committed) to someone else within a year or so of your break-up.

It depends. Can you fully love the one you're with and deal with your baggage on your own?

Everything always depends on circumstance and situation. I'm pretty sure that I broke someone's heart. Said gentleman was in a serious relationship within a year and married within two. They are very happily married and have been for three years now.
