So I realize I didn't mention this with the usual excitement I do for this sort of thing, but: I WENT TO THE NEW TENIMYU TODAY :DDDDD
Now, I've been kinda disappointed with TeniMyu since Season 2 started. I've been trying to keep an open mind, and the new boys do tug at my hearstrings, but after being honestly really disappointed with St. Rudolph/Yamabuki Myu and the travesty that was what they did to all the Golden Pair scenes, I was scared to hope that HyouteiMyu could be anything worth writing home about. I even held back in my ticket-getting, since I knew from past expereince that seeing it once was more than enough this time around, when in the past I've gone 4, 5, 10 times and still wanted to see it more.
But HyouteiMyu for Season 1 was the myu that made me realize that yes, I could love TeniMyu again, and so I thought maybe--just maybe--the same would hold true for HyouteiMyu Season 2.
First off, the down and dirty!
Songs
It felt like honestly most songs were kept! Notable absences were: Do Your Best, Koori no Emperor, and Ore-sama no Bigi ni Boogie-Woogie, I think. Also, Aitsu Koso ga Tennis no Oujisama was shortened a bit. However, all of the above were replaced with revamped versions, such as the new Hyoutei song being a sexy tango beat (with some equally sexy moves!) and Ore-sama no Bigi ni Boogie-Woogie being replaced with an equally outrageous song where Atobe is a prima donna XD Also, randomly, they threw in My Best Tension for Echizen to get a solo during his Hiyoshi match (originally My Best Tension is Echizen's solo during RokkakuMyu iirc!)
Most everyone in Hyoutei were mediocre singers--no one was really anything to write home about, or was pretty unpolished (poor bb Gakuto/JunJun XD;;;), except for one very notable exception: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD SOMEONE MAKE OSHITARI'S ACTOR NEVER STOP SINGING PLEASE.
I mean, this guy. THIS GUY. What's his name even? Kikuchi? YES THAT MOTHERFUCKER HOLY BALLS. He can sing people. Not just carry a tune. This mofo packs his tune into a Louis Vitton suitcase and has it shipped express mail while he walks around with a little purse pooch in his handbag or some shit. I'm talking Shirota, Kazuki, Kimeru good. He's a little...girly almost, I wanna say, in that his voice is kind of high and a bit breathy for Oshitari for me when he's singing, but you tend to forget about details like that because you're too busy jizzing your pants over how amazing he sounds *______* WILLIKERS <--you know I don't hand out 'willikers' lightly!
It's just a pity his little Gakuto wasn't really on the same level XD; kind of made Katsu'n wa Hyoutei hilarious XD
On an unrelated note, though, LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW AWESOME GOLDEN PAIR WERE IN THIS SHOW HMM??
Yesterday,
Akki went to see the new show, and his thoughts were: "I cried at that line of Inui-sempai's and had my heart scraped out by the Golden Pair."
Now, that would make anyone curious. Cause I sure didn't remember there being all that many big scenes for GP in the Hyoutei matches--but maybe he was talking about Sannin de Doubles?
Ah. Nope. Nope he was not. He was talking about the fucking masterpiece that has become Yume wo Tsunagou.
The first time I heard the song, I didn't listen too closely to the lyrics--and given that it's sung by Oishi the first time but then by the whole cast as a reprise in Season 1, it's easy to forget that it's a Golden Pair song. But it's very much one--and with lyrics like "My dream is yours, we've walked the same road together. My tomorrow is your future, we're partners who share our lives together." it's preeeeeeetty obvious just how slashy the two are when it's sung just by Oishi alone. However, you might be able to brush it off in Season 1 as Oishi singing to his teammates. Sure, why not! After all, later on it's sung by the whole team and is obviously about comaraderie and all that awesome shit. Yay! :3
However, this time?
It started off much like in Season 1, with CharlieOishi sitting on the bench in the hospital singing his solo (which thank god I have a new version to look forward to XD; It's such a pretty song, but...Zukki XD;;;;) And then that's when things get interesting. Because in the darkness behind him...a little spotlight begins to glow, and you see...Kikumaru. Just Kikumaru. Standing behind Oishi while he belts out this love song and then he starts echoing him, making it almost a round, and it's so beautiful and so melodic (they obviously practiced it a lot) that no shit I started tearing up watching it ;____; If there were any implications before that it was from Oishi to his teammates, having Oishi and Kikumaru up there alone singing this song to each other blew them away. It's a Golden Pair song through and through ;____; fuck I love these two so much.
Acting
I'll focus here on the Hyoutei boys mostly, because of course Seigaku were the same as always :x
Aobe/Atobe: Was...okay. Not horrible, but not Katobe by any means, not even Kubobe. His acting was a little dull for me up until the Tezuka match, after which I was more impressed with his chemistry with Wada 8D Did okay on Ikki Uchi, but it really wasn't that good--and when you have to live up to two of the greatest singers in TeniMyu of all time...you need to at least do it justice. I was surprised they kept Ikki Uchi, though, given the shoes they had to fill for one and the fact that...neither Yudan Sezu ni Ikou nor Koori no Emperor were kept in their same forms (they were both there, but with revamped melodies and lyrics). I would actually have rather heard them do some melodic mashup of the new versions of the songs :3
Kikuchi/Oshitari: Needs to set his entire life to music and never stop singing. Ever. Also did a great job with his Kansai-ben! Still looks a little large for Oshitari for me, but is nonetheless sexy and such a step up from AkiShin XD;;; Also also: I hate to say it but...he had more sexy chemistry in certain songs with Atobe than Gakuto, which is a frowny-face in my book (but he looked so fricking hot I couldn't bring myself to care too much XD)
JunJun/Gakuto: Cons--not acrobatic really (he did some flips, but it was obvious he'd practiced them; still I was proud that he had done that!) and not a good singer either unfortunately XD;; Pros--LOOKS REALLY DELERIOUSLY SINFULLY GOOD IN SKIN-TIGHT CAPRIS AND IS A BITCHY PRIMA DONNA ON THE COURT. SO, YOU KNOW, THE STUFF I CARE ABOUT IN A GAKUTO XDDDDD Also his voice/tone is really spot on imho XD
Tomoru/Jiroh: Well...Jiroh's kind of a boring character XD HOWEVER TOMORU WAS ADORBS *PINCHES CHEEKS*
Everyone else: Nothing to really write home about? XD; I did think Shishido's actor did a phenomenal job (Ohtori's was kinda boring though unfortunately) and reminded me a lot of KenKen
Other stuff
--...Tezuka's ringtone on his cellphone (when Oishi calls to explain where he is) was Do Your Best XD
--Oishi bodychecking and shoving Gakuto off the court when he comes running on for Sannin de Doubles XDDDD Followed up by Gakuto whining to everyone else, with Oshitari being last and having to hold Gakuto back from going to cut a bitch.
--Katsu'n wa Hyoutei entrance from the audience, fuckyeah!!
--After Sannin de Doubles, Eiji mentions that they wouldn't have been able to win if it was just himself and Momo, and that Oishi's support helped them win. Add in some more flirting as they walk off to the sidelines together, leaving Momo to watch them and then feel like a very obvious third wheel lolololol *DEAD* GOD YOTTI, HOW MUCH FRICKING GP FANSERVICE CAN YOU FIT IN HERE?
--Idk, but I imagine it's about as much as she can fit in for TakaFuji LOLZ which is to say...there was a lot of that too.
--Araki won the poll for "best singer" of the Inuis on
tenimyutopia. If people had heard Teruma fuck the shit out of Data wa Uso wo Tsukanai like I just did tonight, that poll would've ended differently. Holy shit. How have I not noticed he's a really good singer before?
--Momo coming and sitting in the empty chair right behind me during Jumping Up at the end of the show, OH FUCK SO MANY LOLZ.
--I was kind of disappointed that they never showed any of the Golden Pair fight scenes or them making up or anything, but then I realized it was in all they did show that really told the story--like an awkward scene in the changing room near the beginning where Oishi comes in, silent, and tries to look busy, and Eiji comes in right after him, and there is this long pause as they look at each other before Eiji ducks back out again, and Oishi then snaps at the Ichinen ;~; The next time you see them, though, they've already made up and Taka-san is very confused, wondering weren't they fighting and Golden Pair being lol what no
And that's all that I remember for now! Will hopefully have more if I see anything new to comment on when I go again on the 29th with
nikki_aino!
On a final note, I leave you with this eerie comparison:
I'm sorry, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw JunJun with that tie :D;;; (also I flipped the picture to make the comparison slightly more believable XD; I don't think he looks that much like Chiaki honestly also he is like 10 years younger than Chiaki lol but it amused me that my brain automatically thought "CHIAKI!" because of that stupid tie and the fact that he looks ready for his 7-5-3 festival XD)
