A/N: I actually founs the first line for this while going through the archives of
firstlines1000 and was going to write this as a response for both challenges but it didn't wanna be 1000 words, it wanted to be 503 words instead.
Amy is drunk. Again. She knocks on the door of the apartment; it is ten past four in the morning. Donna considers not answering, ignoring her but she can’t, she stumbles to the door, opens it already knowing who will be on the other side, she almost bursts into tears at the sight of Amy, pale, gaunt, messy, she is the only one who ever sees her like this. Donna silently gestures for Amy to some inside, Amy obeys. This is their ritual; she walks into to Donna’s living room sits down on the floor. Donna sits first in a plush chair but then movies to the floor, next to her, Amy play with the hem of her pyjama top.
“What happened?” Donna asked, afraid of what the answer will be.
“Nothing.” Amy replied sincerely. Donna shuddered.
“Then you’re so drunk you can barely stand for no good reason.” Donna surmised bitterly.
Amy nodded in reply.
“I don’t understand it.” Donna said.
“Neither do I.” Amy replied on the verge of tears.
“You need help.” Donna replied suddenly.
“No.” Amy said pleadingly.
“I can’t stand idly by and watch you do this to yourself.” Donna was trying to remain strong but failing, a single tear crept down her cheek.
“I’m sorry.” Amy muttered trying to stand, she fell straight back down again.
“Where are you going?” Donna asked already knowing what the answer would be.
“Home.” Amy replied simply.
Donna shook her head and without a word helped Amy up off the floor and walked her into the spare bedroom, told her to sit on the bed while she got her some pyjamas. By the time Donna returned, which was all of 30 seconds later, Amy had passed out on the bed. Donna sighed and changed her into the pyjamas, Amy didn’t wake, Donna put her into bed, left the lamp, Amy has in the past freaked out after waking up drunk in the dark, Donna makes sure Amy is breathing rolls her on her side and leaves.
Donna couldn’t understand it, it had started off innocently, a drink after work, well for Amy about 40 drinks and then they were kissing, never anything more not that Donna can remember anyway, then they some how tripped and fell into this pattern of Amy gets drunk, comes to Donna’s apartment, sometimes they kiss sometimes they don’t then Amy passes out on Donna’s spare bed, then they do it again, night after night.
Donna wants to help her doesn’t know how, she knows Amy has a problem, Amy knows this sometimes she pleads for help says she doesn’t want this anymore… but the cycle continues, Amy can’t break it, neither can Donna, so they let it continue.
Amy is gone before Donna wakes up in the morning, Donna gets up, starts her day, knowing it will end the same way, with Amy, she is slowly realizing that she is as addicted to Amy as Amy is to the alcohol and like Amy she can’t stop.
