Bellatrix had very little patience for Quidditch Saturdays. The entire school crowded into uncomfortable stands to watch a handful of their classmates whiz through the air, almost too fast to see.

It was the last match of the season, bitter rivals Slytherin and Gryffindor facing off, with the winner earning the Quidditch cup. Emotions had been running high all week, and it hadn't taken long for the sophomoric teasing of the two house's teams to grate on Bellatrix's last nerve.

She didn't even know why she was here today. Surely there was mischief to be made back in the castle on the last free Saturday before the seventh years sat their N.E.W.T.s?

Yet here she was, sitting between two rowdy first years in the top level of the stands, watching as Professor McGonagall met with the snarling team captains below.

Suddenly the two teams shot into the air, streaks of emerald and ruby. Bellatrix's eyes followed one streak in particular up and up, higher than the rest of its teammates, higher than the highest bleachers.

Andromeda Black, her mane of blonde hair whipped about by the rough wind, was beginning her circle of the Quidditch pitch. Slowly, purposefully, like a predator particularly intent on finding that perfect prey. Bellatrix smiled in spite of herself at the sight of her sister's lithe form silhouetted against the sky, even as Gryffindor scored its first goal against Slytherin's apparently-inept Keeper. Bellatrix's fellow students erupted into jeers at the bad play, but Bellatrix's attention was focused high above the field.

Bellatrix's insufferable fellow Slytherin was giving a rapid fire commentary as the match on the pitch escalated, while the two experienced Seekers remained high above the action.

"Weasley swings at a bludger, defending Chaser Warren. The bludger is going wild, careening up towards the Seekers!"

As one, the students in the stands jump to their feet, following the Bludger as it careens towards the Seekers who are circling the pitch, side by side.

Andromeda sees the Bludger first and streaks away. Bellatrix can't see her clearly, but can imagine her triumphant grin and light laugh as the Slytherin seeker imagines that her foe is about to be knocked off his broom.

Gryffindor's Seeker, indeed, never saw the Bludger coming.

He was focused on the gold speck that was hovering over the Slytherin bleachers.

A streak of crimson darted towards the sea of emerald. Bellatrix watched her sister give chase, hunched low over her broom.

But it didn't take a divination student to see who would be winning this match.

Andromeda never gave up, straining until the last moment to beat her rival. But the Gryffindor Seeker shouted and cheered, just feet from Bellatrix's head, as he scooped up the delicate golden Snitch. Seconds later, Andromeda swooped past, silent except for the rustling of her robes.

The stands quickly started to empty, as Gryffindor's supporters swarmed the field and Slytherin's sulked back to the castle. Bellatrix was the only green-clad observer who stayed seated, watching the sullen Slytherin Quidditch players sneak to the showers. Bellatrix's gaze rested on her sister's back, memorizing the unfamiliar slump of failure in her sister's usually proud shoulders.

Bellatrix wasn't sure, but she thought the pain in her chest might be her heart breaking for her younger sister.

That night, the two eldest Black sisters buried their heads into their pillows, united in their desire for something they weren't meant to have.
