"You're crazy!" Sophie shouted over the roaring, gale-force winds and fierce thunder. "I'm not jumping down there in this!"
Parker grabbed her wrist. They could hear the FBI charging up the stairwell behind them. "If you don't, they'll catch you!"
"Let them catch me!" Sophie shot back. Lightning struck a nearby amplifier and blew sparks. She edged away from the roof. "At least I'll still be alive!"
"Not on my watch." Parker smacked a helmet down on Sophie's head, then shoved her off of the roof. Sophie screamed; Parker grinned and jumped after her. Men's angry voices filled the rooftop as she dropped after Sophie. She opened her parachute and began maneuvering it.
Sophie was still screaming when Parker caught her. She wrapped her arms tightly around her and gained control of their fall. "You're crazy!"
Parker grinned. "You love that about me," she called back and then kissed her.
They began to drift more slowly through the storm, and Sophie's pounding heart quickened for a far different reason as she realized she was no longer falling. Her lips curved into a tremulous smile as she returned Parker's kiss. They weren't falling; they were flying in the wings of love.
