Her tongue swirled around the little nubbin.
She closed her eyes and made a thoughtful little ‘mm’ sound at the back of her throat, then looked up and locked eyes with the woman watching her. The gaze was intense, silent, green and gray eyes reflecting passionate interest.
Smiling, she closed her lips around the end of the pen and tapped her teeth around the round nub. Separated by the classroom, they did not break the stare until Elaine’s classmate nudged her foot with a toe.
“El? What do you think of this?”
“What...oh!” She could feel her cheeks flush as she looked down at the paper held before her. The pen stayed in her mouth, but she transferred it to the corner with a flick of her tongue. “Yes, the F-statistic is the one we should be using. Look, here.” Quickly, she drew out a few formulae with the pencil she had been holding.
Her group member - a plump, pretty blonde - smiled and penned them in. “We’re done! Gosh, I can’t wait to get going. My boyfriend’s waiting for me.”
“Cheers, Kasey.” Elaine smiled, then looked up to where she had seen the other woman - only to find her chair empty. She felt a pang of disappointment until a hand appeared in her peripheral vision, holding a small folded note.
“Call me.” The voice had a husky purr.
She took the note with a smile, watching the brunette walk away.
Statistics had just become more interesting.
