Challenge #215: Light
A Ray of Sunlight
The dark cloud of the King’s disapproval hung over my chambers stifling all joy. Amidst the gloom, young Katherine Howard shone like a ray of sun light. Amidst the tense silence of my ladies her laughter rang like the song of a bird.
Such a little thing, so light on her feet compared to my lumbering ways. The Mare of Flanders his majesty called me.
I ought to have despised her for catching my husband’s eye yet I understood only too well what he saw in her, how her light-hearted youth had enchanted him.
I admit I was enchanted myself.

Challenge #215: Light
Diamond in the Sky
For Nico, Karolina’s powers embodied who she was-a being of vibrant rainbow light gliding through the sky.
Nico wasn’t like that. She didn’t glide or radiate bright auras of color.
Left to her own devices she was a dark and earthbound sort weighted down by baggage and responsibilities, subject to insecurities and self-doubt.
That was why she needed Karolina, to lighten her up, to light her up.
When Karolina took her by the hand, Nico could fly free of all the things that threatened to drag her down. In the sky together they were light and bright as diamonds.

Challenge #215: Light
Ready to Shine
Even when we were real little, Monica had a light in her eyes. Maybe that’s what our teachers meant when they called her bright.
She was always making plans, always dreaming big. She was going somewhere; she was going to be someone.
She lost everything to Katrina, her mom, her hopes for college. But somehow working at Burger Bonanza, even being rejected for the management training program hasn’t extinguished that light that I’ve always seen in her (that light I’ve always loved about her).
She’s back there in the kitchen cutting tomatoes into roses, practicing kung-fu moves, ready to shine.

Challenge #215: Light
Jewel and Star
Kaylee and Inara lit up for each other.
Kaylee thought that Inara shone like a jewel. A sapphire, a ruby or maybe an emerald; something deeply and richly colored that sent off brilliant flashes of light from its facets and sparkled from all the way across the room. A treasure, precious beyond measure.
To Inara, Kaylee was as radiant as the sun. She moved serenely from nurturing warmth to sultry heat, containing so much energy and potential. Golden and glowing, the fixed point in a universe often full of chaos and conflict, always steady and caring, the source of everything.
