I don't think it's possible to write this pairing as anything other than sad, not in the long range... I'm only up to episode 10 and I can already see where they're pushing the plot arc out in the direction of the standard legend. It's going to be a tragedy, as Camelot always is.

Arthurian legend has been the love of my life... I was never intending to write for the bbc merlin fandom, but their Gwen is just so lovely. And so much easier to work with than Standard Arthurian Guinevere.

The thing which fascinates me most about the bbc merlin is the way that you THINK they're just writing crack where none of the characters are the same, and then episode by episode they turn out to be weaving their way into the main legends, and it's going to be tragic. Particularly for Gwen and Morgana :(.

They've been breaking mine since I was a wee squidget. I've always wanted to write Guinevere, but I cannot get her character to work. The BBC's gwen is adorable, and so much easier to work with...

I know what you mean. It was sad enough when Guinevere was someone without a specific character/personality - now that she's being shown as this absolute sweetheart, it makes it all the easier to envisage, and all the more tragic!
