Basically cause I’ve gotten to attached to my Laura/Cain on New Cap storyline…
“Helena” Laura said looking up from her bed into the unexpected brown eyes.
Cain’s gaze softened, it had been a long time since that voice had called her Helena.
“You’re dead,” Laura stated. It wasn’t a question.
“Do you remember…,” Cain began.
Laura nodded, reaching out a tentative hand for the solace of her dreams. Helena closed her eyes as the hand skimmed her cheek.
“So much has changed,” Laura commented, looking into Helena’s eyes, riddled with pain and loss but watching her with a soft affection Laura had never seen in the Admiral her ex-lover had become.
“I’ve missed you,” came Helena’s reply before she could recognize or stop the impulsive confession.
She relented without qualifying the admission, hoping the ephemeral cloak of Laura’s dream-state would obscure her.
“I loved you that summer,” Laura replied as Helena leaned her cheek into Laura’s hand.
“And now?” Helena asked, staring into the distant sadness of Laura’s eyes.
Laura pulled her hand away.
“You changed. It doesn’t matter, you’re dead.”
“And if I wasn’t,” Helena asked softly, reaching out to hold Laura’s hands in her own.
“Gods Helena you broke my heart,” she replied interlacing their fingers.
Helena drew the hands to her, kissing Laura’s knuckles softly.
“Let me make it up to you.”
Laura closed her eyes and turned away but Helena held her hand to her lips, waiting. Laura turned back, opened her water-framed eyes.
“You’re dead, this is a dream.”
“Then let me make it a good dream.”
