“He hit you,” Faith snarls as the Vampire’s dust rains down between them. She reaches up and tenderly touches the cut just above Buffy’s eyes. Buffy shivers at her uncharacteristically gentle touch and then again as Faith licks Buffy’s blood from her fingers.
“Wow,” she murmurs, watching her through big eyes. Then she snorts, trying to lighten the tenseness between them. “Being cut never felt so good.”
“You’ll feel better,” Faith vows, and before Buffy can stop her or either of them can think better of it, she wraps her arms around her, pulls her close, and kisses her deeply. Faith’s right: Buffy’s never felt as good as she does with the other Slayer’s lips on her own. Quickly, she melts in Faith’s arms, kissing her back. There are no more Vampires to slay that night, and they don’t save the world that evening, but their lives are forever changed.
