Disclaimer: This one's mine.

She hasn't seen her in years, but yet, in her mind, she still sees her standing there on the harbor, looking for all the world more like a siren than any mere mortal woman has the right to do. Her skirts billow about her. The wind pulls her long hair back, and her eyes -- her beautiful eyes are always, always locked on hers.

She hears her shout her name, hears her beg not to go, hears her plea for her to stay. She remembers the promise she made them both that day: that she would return, that when her mission was over and her father's name cleared, she would return. She would return to those arms still full of love, to those eyes that kept her warm on all these colds nights out on the open sea, to those lips for which her insides still burn.

She would return to her, and she, still in her guise as a man, would marry her and make a true woman out of her, but she already is a true woman. She was before she even met her. She's always known her own mind and, she imagines, always spoken it as well. That's why she didn't hesitate to tell her she loved her. It's why she didn't hesitate to agree to wait for her, because she knows, just as the Captain knows: There's only one person across all the lands and all the seas who can complete them, and that's each other.

The End
