The State of Drabble Tag 7

Jan 16, 2017 00:05

Hey, everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season and are feeling well-rested. Not only is it a fun time of year in general, it is also one of the busier fic-writing times with Yuletide going on. This comm is far from dead, but it has been a little quieter these days...which is probably why I pulled a total dork move and completely forgot about Drabble Tag 7's original deadline, which was the end of December.

First of all, please keep writing and filling prompts, but starting now, we are not accepting anymore new prompts.

For the past few years, I've been doing Fill-a-thon weeks/weekends at the end of the event, which have always gone down well. This year I'd like to do something similar, so I am putting up a poll with a few options.

Option #1: A Fill-a-thon weekend like we've done in the past (such as a three-day event for Drabble Tag 6). For this, I'll announce a start date and an end date, and whoever fills the most fics following community guidelines in that time period will win a prize. This has always been fun, but some may feel it is a bit too brief for the amount of fills we have.

Option #2: The same thing as Option #1, except for one full week (7 days) instead of two or three days. This will provide a bit more time for writing.

Option #3: I would follow the spirit of comment_fic's Lonely Prompt Weeks and offer a theme for seven days of writing. For example, day one would be a challenge to write fics from only one fandom, day two would be to write fics totalling exactly 100 words, etc. We would have one free day so you can fill within only the community guidelines, but I think this would just keep people interested all week with a new challenge.

Poll Drabble Tag 7 Ending Fill-a-thon

First prize for the most fills will receive 2 months paid account status ($5). Second and third most fills will get to choose one virtual gift of their choice ($.99). These will come from me, fresh_brainss, so all questions can be directed my way. Fics will be counted accumulatively--if you write 2 fics each day totalling 8 and another writer does 8 fics in one day, you guys are tied and would both receive a prize.

I'd also like to make it clear that I am offering prizes for the fun of it, not as a monetary reward for fanworks, which I know isn't the spirit of fandom. Rather than compensation, it should be seen as something to boost a healthy competition among a group of close-knit writers. And while I hope to join in on the event and fill a few more prompts, I won't be including myself in the competition. You guys have all been amazing, so I want to do this for you.

Please let me know what you think in the comments or PM me with any questions.

Edits: Thank you to beckonade and 4kennedy for reminding me about the Drabble Cycle as well. Keep your eyes open for a post about that later today!

And thank you to crookedspoon for bringing up specific dates for this event. I was thinking the week of Feb. 13th--no matter which option everyone chooses. Thoughts? Everyone could continue writing/filling as usual before that time, too.
