The barren yard is covered with a frost lingering in the dim sunlight. Winter has come early, the fallen leaves long dead.
The ground is dead,too, has been, where daises grew every spring, but never now, not for years.
Olivia watches Mia on the swinging bench, the laying by her bare feet despite the cold. The cigarette falter's in her shaking hand, her unfocused eyes twitching.
Olivia really wonders how long she will last smoking just tobacco, before the urge for the stronger stuff becomes insurmountable and sneaks off to her dealer.
Mia's skin is pale, her face gaunt and sickly, hair matted and greasy.
Olivia shakes her head, thinks that Ash is on a fool's errand.
She's not pessimistic, just observant.
