It’s a shithole of a bar in a forgotten corner of Chinatown, middle of the day, all but empty. Not Fish’s taste, but the lighting’s low and the staff keep their eyes averted, so it’ll do just fine.
Wouldn’t be good if Falcone’s spies saw her with the girl. Not after all the work Fish put into her.
“You doing okay, baby?” Fish asks, voice soft and coaxing. Meeting like this, it’s risky. But there’s something about Liza, something special. Keeping it personal like this, keeping their contact face-to-face when possible, it’s important.
Because Liza’s scared. But that’s a good thing; it’ll keep her on her toes, keep her sharp. And it’s a sign she’s getting in deep, getting to see sides of Falcone he wouldn’t reveal if he didn’t trust her.
“I made you something,” Liza says quietly. Pulls a box from her purse, slides it across the table.
It’s a damn muffin, of all things.
“He’s got me learning to cook,” she explains at Fish’s raised eyebrow.
“Does he now?” Fish smirks. “You’re not trying to poison me, are you?”
Liza gives her a shy smile, the one Fish taught her. “The secret ingredient is love,” she deadpans, and Fish has grown fond of that sparkle in her eye.
Fish crumbles a piece between her fingers, eats it carefully. “Sweet,” she concludes, licking sugar from her thumb. Liza watches the flick of her tongue. “Just like you, baby.”
Fish kisses her girl slow and, yes, Liza’s sweet indeed.
