Marci isn’t into art, but she is into mingling with very rich people, and she’s definitely into free champagne.
She spends the first hour tossing her hair, laughing low and throaty at men in thousand-dollar suits. Making sure she gets noticed, because you’ve got to use what you’ve got. And Marci does get noticed, she always does, because she’s that good.
But she doesn’t want the attention of potential clients with bottomless wallets, as ridiculous as that sounds.
There’s only one person Marci ever wants to notice her at these stupid gallery openings.
Vanessa Marianna sashays over, swing in her hips and a glint in her eye like diamonds.
“You’re starting to become a fixture at these events,” Vanessa says, fingers stroking the stem of her glass.
Vanessa is slim and sleek, has this ridiculously intense gaze, and Marci wants her.
“Maybe you should hang me on the wall,” Marci offers in an overly sweet voice, and Vanessa’s smile gets wider, gets wetter.
“Or maybe I should have you escorted from the building,” she murmurs. “After all, we both know you’re not here for the art.” She leans closer, her perfume expensive and perfect. “Does it count as solicitation if you’re whoring out your skills as a lawyer?”
God, Marci wants her so bad.
“You want me gone, you’ll have to escort me yourself,” she shoots back.
Vanessa’s hand brushes Marci’s hip. “That could be arranged,” she purrs.
Marci grins, their glasses clinking together.
She always gets what she wants.
