Summary: Clara hates that she's only met River now.
Clara hates that she's only met River now.
The time-traveler can only visit her in dreams and visions, during which Clara can touch her, kiss her, and it all feels so real, like she's actually there... but she's not. Not really. Because when Clara opens her eyes, truly opens them to snap back to reality, there is no River Song by her side; their time together was up, she's gone back to wherever it was that she was trapped forever in, and only the cold accompanies Clara in the emptiness of her bed.
She finds herself longing for those dreams together, but the more she's with River, the harsher it is to wake up. The Doctor notices this, he's no fool, and informs her that she has to make a choice. So she does.
Clara has one last shared dream with River to end their... whatever they had. She wasn't even sure if she could call it a relationship. River understand, and is unnervingly cool about it... yet, at the last moment, Clara thinks she catches the sight of a tear streaming down River's face.
But then the clock ticks and their time's up. Clara wakes up back in the Tardis.
That was the last time she saw River Song.
She's made her choice.
