Summary: There's genetics, and then there's environment.
Beth's experience with addicts was that they only went to rehab after doing something totally illegal, like driving while drunk or getting into a brawl and escaping with their life.
But, Alison should be lucky that she only made a fool of herself after falling off the stage and breaking her arm. It was something moderate. Beth's seen Alison's crazy side and she was a bit surprised that she hadn't done something more extreme, like smashing a window.
But, then again, Alison wasn't exactly a violent drunk. In fact, she was crazier when sober, now that she thought about it.
Beth had never minded that Alison drank in front of her and her inebriation wasn't obvious until she started bumping into things she "forgot" was there. She rarely ever slurred her words, and hardly seemed more relaxed after three shots. Apparently it took stronger stuff. Or just more shots.
She knew there was a genetic component to alcoholism, but in Alison's case, Beth knew it was strictly environment with her addiction.
