Summary: Her envy seemed misdirected.
Octavia couldn't place her envy or why it had reared its ugly head. She wondered how long it'd been there. Had been simmering inside for weeks, before finally imploding? Or was it new, suddenly forming itself in her chest?
But, the whom. That was the easy part. It was Clarke, that's who. What wasn't so easy, was explaining the why. It surely wasn't her looks (Octavia was certain she fared well in that department, if not better). She maybe lacking the curves, but, well, that was besides the point.
It wasn't Clarke's somewhat innate leadership skills. She had no desire to be a leader herself, and even though she didn't like being told what to do, she didn't want to give other people orders.
Her envy of Clarke had been intense at first, but had gradually tapered off a little while later, but somehow managed to pop up again. Something had changed, but she couldn't put her finger on it. Something barely perceptible had happened, but she'd failed to see it. Or perhaps she'd unconsciously ignored it and tugged it into the back of her mind, hidden, for now.
Thinking about all this was giving her a headache. There were more important things to dwell on at the moment.
