What We Want (and Can't Have), Bomb Girls, Betty/Kate, photographslyssieJuly 7 2012, 00:53:36 UTC
Betty has this photograph in her head--of her and Kate, after the war. They'll be in their little house, maybe in the kitchen putting away dishes or groceries, or anything that brings them into proximity. Kate will reach around her for something, and Betty will lean in and kiss her.
Light, careful. Like she's testing the waters. Then Kate will kiss her back, full on the mouth with no pretenses or lies between them.
The photograph moves from one moment to the next, like Betty's seeing a film, not a static photo. But the conceit of one over the other makes a difference. It's a Life magazine cover just for her, the sort of home-life she desperately wants to see become normal
