More adventures in Episcopalianism

  • It is not a good idea to forget to put all the priest's patens (the glass plates that hold consecrated wafers during Eucharist) on the altar before service. One ends up having priests and lay eucharistic ministers freaking out three minutes into Eucharist with good reason since, hi, no place to put the wafers to be distributed. In AA, we are taught to pray for those we resent every day for two weeks. We ask that they be given everything we want for ourselves, even if we don't mean a word of it at first. Within two weeks, the resentment will be lifted, and forgiveness is possible. It really does work.

Another AA saying is that "resentment is like wanting to kill someone else but drinking the poison yourself". So it is a pure positive for us to be able to let go of them.

Slightly off topic here, but I wanted to say er... something.
I recently friended you. I was incredibly moved by Exegesis and I've been struggling to figure out the words to tell you that.

As a devote Roman Catholic, a lover of slash and not to mention my huge vampire kink... I found that fic incredibly compelling. Everything from Snape's struggles with his faith, to his connection to vampires, his reaction to the regection (ejection?) of him from the church, the realization that his mother forced him into priesthood for his own protection rather than a true calling.. it was all incredibly fascinating. I couldn't put it down.

And throughout reading it I had to think, My God this girl know her way around an altar. Which, I admit has never happened while reading fic. *g*

So, um, hi. And regarding the incorrect setting up of the altar? Been there, done that. I've also once tipped the entire baptismal font onto myself while trying to move it (ours is on wheels.) :D

I have a lot of faults but one of my few virtues is I am incapable of holding a grudge for any length of time. I just can't sustain the anger. I have no idea why, because when I am initially angry, I am incandescent, but I can't hold a grudge to save my life. When I am chatting cheerfully with someone who pissed me off last week, I am aware that it is a good thing, for whatever reason.

~Um, I can be a very vindictive person sometimes when I feel I've been wronged in some way.~

That is not possible, most beloved. I do not see you as vindictive at all.

If it helps, I know that at least one person who I feel has wronged you would probably not have been so horrible to you if she had more peace, or better balance. So you could see wishing peace to your enemies as self-serving - the more peace they have, the less they'll act like jerks.

Nah, that's undoubtedly no help at all.
