my most important (and demanding) audience is me

Speaking of books and reading, I also recommend this post by Rainbow Rowell about reading addiction. I certainly identify with it, but I've never seen anyone else talk about the upsides/downsides of being a reading fanatic in quite that way ( Read more... )

writing, personal

I think that last paragraph is one of the best things I've read in a long, long while. ♥

I think it's one of the best things I've written in a long time. Well, you know. Felt/thought/expressed.

FEMME. FEMME I CAN RELATE TO THIS SO HARD.

I've gotten back into visual art lately, where it is just me and occasionally my teacher (whose job it is to *critique*) and I am really finding myself struggling with -oh, why should I do this? Because WHO IS GOING TO SEE IT- and really that is NOT a valid question for art. We make art because we WANT to, because we HAVE to, otherwise, it's not really art, it's... IDK, stuff you can buy at Ikea.

So I now have this mantra hanging on my art room wall: I JUST WANT TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL THINGS EVEN IF NO ONE CARES.

Sometimes it works.

Also also, tell me about the original things you are writing. Please.

Yes, exactly! I mean, yes, I would like to make a living doing it, but that shouldn't be the point.

As for the original things, it's still the romance novel about knitting and rock 'n roll. I had an ack moment when I came upon another recently published knitting romance series, and then I told myself to shut up and that it's like somebody having already written your dissertion topic - that's one of the lovely things about genre fiction: it doesn't matter if it's been done before if you do it well.

Interesting link.

But nobody tells you to stop.I can't say I relate to that. I was a voracious reader as a child and I still am considering I spend half my day doing it (though much less of it is fiction). I'm in love with stories more than I am with reading though. As a child TV wasn't an option for me, so I did as much reading as I could. But even so I was limited by available content and how much I liked it. I was also limited by the fact that people wanted me to read less -- go out and play or pay attention in class ( ... )

Ya, this happened to me also.

I am...compulsive about reading in a way I am compulsive about nothing else. I don't know why.

Just wanted to drop a line to say I'm really looking forward to the E&P fic, just hadn't had time to read it yet!

Oh! No worries. It probably would be better if I'd sent it to you to beta, but oh well.
