*Took the cats to sweetheart's mom's in Indiana (a two hour car trip). We thought the meds the vet gave us weren't really working because Sam yowled for the first hour in that frightening way that's half human-child and half alien being. But then when Logan refused to take his pill on the way back and became so terrified by the 10 foot walk to the ( Read more... )

You need Ravelry, if you haven't already found it. Patterns GALORE, technical support, tons of information about yarns.

Also, quite an adorable little ficlet!

I should have known that my flist are all a bunch of knitters. <3

P.S. Sos you know, your prompt was the second runner up of which I tackle in my allotted fic-writing hour today. T'would be Ginny, but I'm not sure who she'll hitch a ride with yet. A girl, most likely.

Hee! I gave it thought actually.

Also, I am so pleased that it seems as though if I begin to babble on about knitting, there will be a helpful and enthusiastic audience.

Oh, you are such a wonderful writer! *rubs up against your prose and purrs* I'm trying to pull my favourite line to quote back to you and failing, because I like them all. I love your sketch of Mr. Granger.

Kudos on surviving the large family dinners. This is why the dinner holiday is so swiftly followed by the drinking holiday, imo, even if one really likes one's relatives (and I do).

Hi hi! And thanks. I am at this current moment taking the positive perspective that writer's blocks allow for the rediscovery of the joys of writing. Or something.

re: large family dinners - I'm not sure which are more intense, ones with my own family or the kind I just experienced - with my s/o's fam. Probably the former, overall. :P Sadly, I'm less and less capable of drinking without utterly regretting it soon after.

Thank you, lady friend! Santa the wizard caught me unawares with its obviousness, I must say.

You got good loot! The slow cooker + the garlic press should make for some yummy meals.

KNITTING! HUZZAH! I'm glad someone above linked you to Ravelry and Knitty, Yarn Harlot, Barbara Walker and Elizabeth Zimmermann. Those are all great resources. If you're looking for HP patterns, there are plenty on Rav, as well as HP-centric groups and knit-alongs. All good stuff.

I'll add my two cents: If you forget certain stitches, cast ons or bind offs, KnittingHelp.com has a wealth of free videos with voice overs to help remind you how to do those stitches, or teach you new ones. Interweave Knits has a daily newsletter called Knitting Daily, which also provides helpful tips and info, and the occasional free pattern. Classic Elite Yarns also has some really nice free patterns (just scroll down on that page and you'll see them) and a weekly web-letter that includes free patterns as well. Finally, Vogue Knitting has both free patterns and the Stitchionary which is a text version of pattern notes of how to do a few cable, knit and purl, and ( ... )

Even more links! Yayz.

Right now I am wondering if my taking up knitting will balance out my increasing coupledness so that I can retain the title of this journal (Modern Spinsterhood). :P

Thank you for the kind words regarding the ficlet - it really was a relief to be able to "visit" the characters again, a bit.
