1. I see no reason to choose between Kara and Sam - i'll take both please. And damn isn't the apocalypse looking sexy this year? 2. Love the essay. I think you capture something I (and I am sure others) would relate to - in that fandom is a site for looking at the world, looking at ourselves - and playing! 3. This article makes mention of the Firefly DVD/Serenity conenction.
1. Also the option I choose. I think Kara would drive Sam insane. The idea of her and Dean together though is a kind of hotness that almost escapes words though.
2. Thank you! I think you capture something I (and I am sure others) would relate to - in that fandom is a site for looking at the world, looking at ourselves - and playing! I'm so glad that came through. It makes me think of how I'm pretty sure that though I don't want to write ethnographic accounts of fandom (academically) it's more like I believe that being part of fandom has affected how I think about the world/texts as much as my academic training and there's no way I can (or want to) separate that sensibility out of my work. So I guess I veer more towards being a "fannish academic" than an "academic fan." To me, anyway.
3. Thank you for the link!!!! The part I left out of this essay was the fact that fandom helps me do my homework! :P
