Hee, yeah, people are vaguely defensive about being Wentzed into bandom. *giggles* It's okay! He's pretty! *points at icon* It's the only one I have, though, as Fall Out Boy doesn't really do anything for me. BUT, I have been happily ensconced in bandom for nigh two years now (holy shit, where'd the time go??) and have definitely, definitely posted lots of fic. *points at tasyfafiction as proof*
Although that now has a Doctor Who ficlet, too, that I was subsequently convinced to post at time_and_chips. Odd, odd, odd.
Have bookmarked the vid to watch. I was reading this post today entitled "Received Wisdom" about how women were encouraged to give up their dreams and only go to post-secondary school for the MRS degree. The post itself and the comments are most thought-provoking. :-)
Wait! You're writing fic about a television show again!? Um, I've still only seen through S1 of New Who. I imagine it has spoilers past that?
And I'm still thinking that I'm unlikely to get into any kind of bandom, but you know, I'm also becoming more and more of the opinion that "Never say never" should be motto. I mean, I'm writing HARRY POTTER FIC for crying out loud. *g*
Random thought: but I wonder if my lack of interest in bandom has anything to do with how some of my best friends are in bands where they have fangirls and such. *ponders*
No, no, no. One-off, for Anne (mostly). :D Tag to the S2 finale, so yeah, spoilerish for you. It was weird to be in a new muse's brain, however briefly (it's a wee piece).
I suspect that your random thought is correct, both for knowing the musicians' side of fangirls and also for that knowledge possibly killing the whole mystique aspect of it. ;-D Though I've not forgotten that you said your one friend had said he'd know his band had really made it when he found bandslash about them on the 'net!
Hee! I brought that up to said friend over my trip actually. He was telling me about observing people wank about the wikipedia entry on his band. And how someone tried to contest him on a song lyrics site when he edited the entry on one of their songs!
One thing that I do find really interesting is actually...how little Sam and Dean are actually in the vid. Which makes sense because really this is about how the camera treats women's bodies, not how those characters do. Or it seems so to me.
That's an excellent and succinct way of putting it.

Yeah that would be if I believed it would actually get anything out of your system. :P
I think I am also about to change the title of this LJ to "Modern Spinsterhood."
Oh, jeez, that's beautifully coined. We are of similar tribes.

We are of similar tribes. <3 And I made my subtitle: "TeeVee, Porn, and Excessive Higher Education."
