Please read carefully! Our format has changed this year. We are going to a prompt-
claiming format, due to lack of time on the part of your mods. This will allow fanart and
other fanworks, not just fanfiction. Think of our setup as the bastard child of a ficathon
and a kink meme.
Also, we are mirroring this challenge on
LiveJournal and
Dreamwidth. Prompts, claims, and fills will be
accepted on either site. If you need a Dreamwidth invite code, please comment with
an email address and one will be provided for you.
The Rules & Timeline
1. You do not need to participate in order to submit prompts; however, no one may
submit more than three prompts.
1a. Prompt/Comment Editing: You may edit prompts as you would like this
year, up until the point your prompt is claimed by a writer.
2. It will be first-come, first-served on prompt claims, and you may claim no more than
two prompts. You may also write and prompt crossovers this year.
3. We have no official fandoms this year! Any fandom is fair game. (Yay!) Prompts
should, as always, be woman-centric and follow the theme of celebrating the canonical
women characters.
4. Femslash, gen, and het are all acceptable, as well as poly fics and boyslash. (Though,
by the nature of the challenge, boyslash should be a background to your story, not the
focus of your story.)
4a. Please note that het fics should still focus on the woman in the pairing, not on the
man. Having stories that are focus on a man except for the last 300 words are not in the
spirit of this challenge. Stories that are from the POV of a woman, but which focus how
she thinks and feels about a man, are also not in the spirit of this challenge. (You would
think that these things would be obvious, but trust us, they're not.)
4a. We do not allow genderbending prompts (canon male characters written as if female)
or canon male characters; however, we do allow trans and genderqueer character
prompts, so long as the focus is on the experience of being a woman.
5. We encourage prompts for characters of color, disabled characters, queer
characters, trans and genderqueer characters, and non-Christian characters.
6. We do not allow RPF/RPS or incest fics. A portion of the mod team is not
comfortable with these; we have therefore chosen to disallow them.
7. Fics must be a minimum of 1000 words. There is no maximum. Please be sure to have
your fics betaread prior to posting. (Ficathon mods are not available for betareading
purposes, nor are we able to find you a betareader. We will, however, put a post up for
betareaders and writers to find each other.)
8. Offensive Prompts: Do not submit prompts that relate to any characters
behaving in what could be considered an offensive manner regarding sexism, racism,
gender/sexuality, diability, religion, and other -isms. Please, do not exhibit massive
fail . Also, no character-bashing or pairing-bashing. Your mods are very anti-bashing.
(Acknowledging character flaws is one thing; bashing is another.) Offensive prompts
will not be included.
8a. Your mods are only human, lack prescience, and therefore cannot catch everything.
If there is something questionable, please call it to our attention. We will discuss the
matter and deal with it.
9. Defaults: We moved to the open prompt claim system in order to avoid
worrying about defaults. Anyone who has defaulted in the past is eligible to participate
this year.
10. Posting: Your mods are still hashing this out, but are considering the move
toward a more flexible posting format. We will post when we have made a decision.
Posting Guidelines:
1. Put everything but your header behind a cut-tag.
2. Your header needs to include, at a minimum, the title, author, recipient, betareader,
prompt chosen, rating, and any warnings. Anything else is candy-coated author's note
sprinkles on top of the ice cream sundae of your fanfic.
3. Put a subject line containing the title, fandom, pairing (if necessary), and rating on
your story.
4. Do not hard-code font style or color changes, or make any changes to the LJ and DW
defaults. This can make fic very hard for some people to read.
5. We require warnings for character death, noncon/dubcon, and graphic violence.
Please note: If your story does not meet these basic criteria, we will ask you to
re-post it.
