I am curious to know  you all react to probably the most frustrating remark a feminist can hear-
"Why are you a feminist? Women are equal in society."

I heard such a remark a few days ago, my reply was "How can women be equal in this society if a woman can't even walk down the street at night without the threat of being raped/attacked?"

sometimes i go off about domestic violence, rape, and assault issues. sometimes i go on about unequal pay. sometimes unequal education. childcare, abortion, feminine hygiene products, birth control, clothing, the media portrayal of women, the sexualization and dehumanization of women in the media...there are lots of things i say in response to that questions.

usually, i also point out feminism isn't only about women and men being equal, but rather everyone being equal across race, gender, sexuality, religious, etc lines. that's a very indepth thing to go into with people since it's something that would require an entire reconstruction of our society, so depending on the situation, i don't always get really deep into what i'm a feminist and what it means to me.

anyway...that was longish. sorry.

i usually just say "women aren't paid equally" to shut them up, because if i mention rape, domestic violence, objectification, etc, the dude will just say "DUHH MEN GET RAPED TOO!!!!!!!!" or some stupid shit, and i really don't like to deal with idiotic responses.
