Sorry to disappoint, but yes I'm black

Apr 05, 2009 18:25

Why??? Why do people always have to make reference to me being 'black'... Yes I fucking know I'm not stupid, its not like I woke up one morning and discovered that I was a little darker than usual. I am so amazed at peoples blatant ignorance.

GRRRRRR!!

Can you give us a little bit more context? What happened? I'm really disappointed by the human race sometimes. :\

I'm glad you wrote this because it seems like a lot of Americans believe our racial issues have been forever quelled with the election of President Obama and obviously that is a bit optimistic and naive.

People reference you being Black because we're stupid - and because everything that isn't the same is "other".

This shit makes me wanna twist somebody's fuckin' head. When describing a given situation, if the speaker is white and is speaking about a white person, no race indicator is given. In the same situation, if the white speaker is talkin' about someone that isn't white, there is almost ALWAYS a race indicator.

Grr!

*nods*

Yeah, that's why I've started deliberately using privileged indicators in my everyday speech. Shakes things up a little bit.

Also, OP, that really really sucks, and it's completely stupid as well as ridiculously privileged.

Out of curiosity, can you give examples of what you mean by "deliberately using privileged indicators in my everyday speech"? The idea appeals to me.

This is kinda vague, what was the context in which it was mentioned, was it in relation to feminist sex?
