i'm really peeved at the inclusion of rape in the Tomb Raider game, and the subsequent backpedalling as a "microaggression". 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted or abused, i don't think that qualifies as micro in any sense of the word, nor does it reassure women gamers who are survivors or not that the gaming industry (or the world at large) gives two fucks about their feelings

i don't think that qualifies as micro- yeah, put in the right perspective- calling it micro is pretty insulting.

IMO with this reboot of the franchise they're further displaying their discomfort over having a female character who kills outside of anything less than an extreme situation. So they keep piling on and piling on because they (subconsciously?) aren't willing to consider any other ways to develop Lara and her story.
Like I said above, this is only part of what they did wrong. But I think it's a key aspect of their serious issues when it comes to writing female characters.
We've only seen fractions of the game and I (REALLY) hope that the final and complete product proves me wrong. But I'm both curious and concerned over how the Lara we've seen so far becomes the kind of person who will realistically choose to be a full-time adventurer. And even if the last portion of the game gives me back the proactive Croft I loved, IMO nothing can justify having an attempted rape thrown into the story in this manner.
Also this (suitable for work) comic strip captures the issue pretty well I think: Reply
