The irony of the professional industry definitely stuck out when I read this. The home kitchen has been a place few men would enter, yet as soon as the line between domestic chore and the much more prestigeous culinary arts is crossed, it becomes totally different. I see that in the fashion as well.

Gordon Ramsay is sort of a "shock-jock" of the culinary world, so I don't take his comments as seriously as if, say, Bobby Flay had said them (although Bobby Flay is no saint himself).

Of course women are relying more and more on prepared meals; as you said, women are often still responsible for meal preparation despite working outside of the home or having additional household responsibilities.

My mom relied on frozen or canned prepared foods because she did not have the time to cook from scratch every night (she was a teacher and her post-dinner evenings were usually spent grading papers). My mom knew how to cook but it was not a priority for her; she would rather make a fast meal and be able to spend some time with her kids than cook a more elaborate (although admittedly healthier) meal and have less time for her family, household duties and papers to grade.

Yeah, I watched the U.S. Hell's Kitchen, so I knew what he's like... I still couldn't believe this when I heard about it.

the chef that this post is about did a show called Hell's Kitchen, but that doesnt sound like what you're referring to.

His statement "when they eat, they cheat," could be a judgment on the lifestyle of eating frozen meals versus freshly prepared meals. It is most likely accurate that less women can cook, due to a different set of priorities or way of life that most women have today. I can't say that more men are learning to cook now, but I don't think that is a bad thing. If you want a home cooked meal you should be able to cook it yourself. As one of the "cheaters," I throughly enjoy my husband's eagerness to cook for us.

You know what I also like hate?

...young women out there who know how to mix cocktails but can't cook to save their lives...

Yes, you dolt. Mixing a great cocktail isn't a skill, or anything. Bartending isn't also an industry that is dominated by men, either.

All the points that you made were wonderful.
