As much as we all get a little skeptical of Lifetime programs, something interesting caught my eye. I was watching The '60s when an ad came up for a mini-series called "Human Trafficking;" it's supposed to be a program based on the kidnapping and transportation of young girls to brothels, where they are unwillingly trafficked ( Read more... )

Hell, if it's legal, there'd actually probably be more protection for minors. Not having to go after sex workers would mean a whole bunch of cops available for other tasks - presumably including stopping child trafficking.

There are plenty of legitimate institutions that are still open for abuse. Legalizing prostitution may offer governmental regulations, but just because something is illegal doesn't mean no one will do it. A lot of companies will employ people illegally if it means they don't have to pay them as much, etc. The government doesn't protect everything. (this is more in response to many of the other notes that were left, rather than the OP)

I was under the impression that people would like to legalize it to impose regulations on it. Basically, girls wouldn't have to work for shady pimps that beat them on a regular basis.

That being said, I don't think it will ever be safe. The STI risk alone is more than enough for me.
