I think you questioned this in a different way to what I have seen previously, so am going to provide my perspective.
Selling sex or selling sexuality, like a lot of other things in (my) society has so many if’s and but’s and “lets look at the context”
I can think of a few situations: I do it cause I think it’s fun I do it cause it pays well I do it cause it makes me feel good I do it cause it makes me feel powerful to make others feel good I do it cause it’s what everyone else is doing I do it cause I don’t know what else I could do I do it cause others tell me there is nothing else I could do I do it cause there is nothing else I could do
We all make judgements, whether we mean to or not, on if these are acceptable arguments, and in what situation. How privileged the person is seen to be effects our perception of it.
What I think we have to be careful of is that while lack of privilege can mean lack of choice… we shouldn’t discount what the woman says. This takes even more power away.
I kinda just look at these issues the way I do anyone else's sexual behavior. It's not my business so long as it doesn't hurt anyone and it's between consenting adults. Personally, I find it humorous that men are willing to pay so much for a woman just to even pretend to be interested in them and I say, Go for it, take their money! That's pretty much the attitude I have about places like Hooters and such, if a woman chooses to work there, it's her choice.
Prostitution, however, I worry more about. I can see how it might be an honest choice by a woman, seeing as how much money can be made from it, but the health risks are so high for the women involved and there is also a whole danger to the trade itself. I do wonder if this is because it is currently illegal or if it should continue to be illegal for this reason, sort of a chicken and the egg question.
Overall, I support another woman's right to make her own decisions, even if those choices are not what I would choose or if they bother me.
Prostitution legalized? Absolutely. And regulated. Then perhaps the women would have a better chance of being protected from the horrors of pimps and dangerous, violent johns.
Sex work? Without a doubt, a woman's choice. And one she shouldn't be judged for. People work at careers 'distasteful' to some for myriad reasons. It's none of anybody's damn business why. The only thing I have to say is that sex workers should absolutely be protected by law, and unionized, since power comes with unionization.
The rest (strip cardio, porn, etc.) are all personal choices. Women are sexual beings (just like men), so being sexual isn't giving into the patriarchy.
