Yes, they did. You can find posters about it at guerrillagirls.org. According to one, 4% of film directors are female.

A quick Google brought me to the following:

Some Hollywood related activism by the Guerilla Girls here and here.

Also, if you're trying to find statistics for an academic paper or something of that nature, try your school/university library's computerized databases -- I'm fairly certain that a number of academic papers & studies have been done on this topic, and so the information should be out there. If you're not sure how to utilize the database systems your school has to offer, the librarians can usually give you a crash course in how to search them.

In other words -- not to be rude, but looking things up on the internet is surprisingly simple. Google is your friend, and libraries are cool.

Oh, no offence taken. I tried, but all that came up were things that were related to the topic, but didn't have a breakdown of actual percentages.
