Cashing out tonight at Meijers (large grocery super store concentrated in MI, OH, & IL) I was given Playtex tampon coupons for my next purchase. What did I buy tonight? Two Ben and Jerry pints of ice cream.

Yeah, exactly what I thought too.

Does ice cream mean menstrual cycle? To me the multi-flavored sugary ( Read more... )

Perhaps they were just instructed to give Playtex coupons to all female customers...?
Or was there something specific that said "buy Ben and Jerry's and get a coupon for tampons!" ?

when I have shopped at Meijers before (like all the time) I am given $.75 for Starbucks drinks when I buy one, or $1.00 off for Stouffers frozen dinners when I buy a frozen dinner. Its based on what you buy. I can't tell you if its gender based yet since my male friends haven't shared their coupon experience when they buy B&J.

Okay, seriously, I've been lurking here for months, and this is the best post I've ever read.

I'm sure it wasn't meant to be funny, but it certainly was.

Okay, I'm done now.

i just ate a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream and i'm not on my period! take that, playtex!

i hate when i get tampon coupons because hello, i use PADS. they're a little less violating, and they don't get stuck in my bloody vagina when i try to take them out.

I am on my period (diva cup baby!), but I'm not on my period all the time. My roommate and I just wanted ice cream for our Sin City movie night.

Icecream, periods and gender stereotypes... sorenr September 18 2005, 06:35:05 UTC
I love ice cream, and I NEVER have a period...

(I also get mad chocolate cravings, by the way... Some men do, y'know...)

I can't make up my mind about Meijer. I feel like it's probably better than Wal-Mart, but is it really? This is all just guessing on my part. I try to support the local grocery stores though, but sometimes it gets hella expensive.

Anyways, that's kind of annoying that they would give you coupons for tampons just cause you bought ice cream. In truth, that is when I am most likely to be buying ice cream and I always appreciate coupons - but comeon Meijer, you can do better than stereotypes. Not every woman buying ice cream is going to be on her period or want coupons for corporate tampons. Sometimes you just want some moostracks.

If Meijer wanted to give me appropriate coupons for when I buy ice cream, then they need to give me a dollar off for the anti-customer mace, or guaranteed next "A" on Psych exam, or...there's a thousand other reasons.

They could give me "get drunk boys out of hallway immediately" coupons, or "absorob homework readings through osmosis".

Or ice cream coupons too - it is likely I will need more moosetracks.

One thing I will say for Meijer, having worked there for two years--they're unionized. The management tended to pull out all the stops to get around the rules, but we did have union reps in every department, and they knew their job well. The Meijer stores suck, but I'd work there over Wal-Mart any day of the week.

On the other hand, the husband spent a summer working in one of the Meijer warehouses, was not unionized--probably because it was just a summer job--but was frequently forced to work sixteen-hour days. So I guess it depends on just what part of Meijer you work for.

A comedienne on Comedy Central actually did this whole bit about how Ben & Jerry's should be packaged with tampons because "if you're there for one, you need the other."

Somewhat related. Maybe they took her advice to heart.

i was thinking that, but about that milk commercial where it claims that calcium helps relieve symptoms of PMS, and there are a bunch of men coming home with massive quantities of milk for their wives/girlfriends/etc. [INSERT HUGE EYE ROLL] maybe they are watching too many commercials.
