Justice Dept. conducts first prison rape report...and concludes prison rape is grossly underreported.  Well gee, considering that rape is one of the most underreported crimes to begin with, the additional stigma of male rape makes this terribly unsurprising.  Yet nonetheless disturbing.

Thank you for the article. While this is a subject that has been gaining attention over the past 20-30 years, one of the reasons (apart from the myth about who can and can't get raped) this goes so under-reported, is because prisoners are not respected...

Prisoners, the homeless and poor people are the most likely to be abused, and the least likely to report for a variety of reasons. Prisoners, especially because often those in power truly have power over the individual being raped.

might i suggest posting this in the phmt (patriarchy hurts men too) community? it's a community for discussing feminist issues that relate to men, and there you can give this issue the attention it is due without concerns of diverting the focus of attention in this community. or at least i believe that was the original purpose of the phmt community.

i didn't say it was. i only suggested it so that if you wanted to post this somewhere and actually discuss the content of your post without having to spend the majority of your comments defending its presence, you could. if you like replying to the kind of comments you've been getting, than continue posting here, i personally don't really care either way.
