This was amazing. I love stories with the idea of Helga as a dear friend to all of them. I love the plans, the waiting, the quiet preparation for her death, the touch of humor even at Godric's death the last meeting with Salazar... everything about the last meeting with Salazar: that he came back and died there, that she waited, that she let him, that she took the basilisk -- and that his son, without magic and by a Muggle mother, went with her to put it away. (I would, I admit, miss the feeling that Godric and Salazar in particular were dear to each other once -- except this is Helga's story, and it wouldn't get more than a sentence.)
I like seeing her as skilled as she is, too.
Lovely story.

As to the Godric and Salazar as friends stuff, to me there's an entire backstory to this piece, and Salazar and Godric are closest friends there, as are Rowena and Helga - until all four of them join to form one group. And then, as the group falls apart, Helga hangs on with everything she has, but it's still not enough.
Thank you again!

Ahem. Yes. The way you describe it absolutely makes sense to me. I was rambling a little, there; like I said, this wasn't the story for Godric and Salazar, and I realize that.
I love this Helga.

And yeah, can't exactly concentrate on Godric and Salazar in a fem gen ficathon, can you?
Thanks again.

And trust me, I understand unfinished fics - I've got at least three unfinished Founders ones, at the moment, and that's just Founders, not everyone else. One-shots = extremely good for managing to finish. *nods*
