Well, I have to admit I didn't catch either the tense-shifts or their significance until after I read the endnote, but beautifully done. Especially this bit, which packs quite a punch on second reading:

It was the same pattern each time she came through the door -- she frantically asked her mother for advice on how best to write to a boy from school, then dashed off again without really waiting to hear the reply -- but Andromeda listens carefully to every word and answers the questions anyway. It isn't exactly a conversation with her daughter, but it is nearly as good as one.

Thanks -- I wanted to emphasise that 'virtual conversation' idea a bit more, but somehow it drifted away in the writing.

Ah, I didn't always catch the tense shifts till the re-play of the stream-scene and I loved the sense of building understanding that keeps growing as you read. You lead your reader through all the right clues to give them this nice ending picture. Its very sad, actually, that Andomedea is living in the past like that, and yet I think most people as they grow older do.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I would use a Pensieve like that if I happened to have one.

Wow! That's really impressive.

The difference between the first time I read it and the second time is huge. The first time, it felt half-a-second-behind, slightly off, you know, but I thought that was because of my tiredness. I enjoyed the scenes you introduced us to anyway. Then the second time, it suddenly made so much sense! It feels fresher, sharper and sadder than the first time around.

Thank you -- I was trying to walk a line between making it too obvious what was happening and making it too obscure. :)

Very intriguing, looking at those tense-shifts and considering Andromeda's slipping through the different memories. I'm looking forward to re-reading.

Thank you -- glad it seemed OK, anyway!
